I'm a new user, so perhaps this has been written up before. I didn't find it.
The Problem:
I needed to monitor my bed-bound wife while in other parts of the house and also when away from home.
The Constraints:
I didn't want a service with its ongoing costs.
The Tools:
- Old Chrome laptop – C100PA – but almost any old Chrome or Windows (maybe Apple too) laptop would probably work
- Foscam Z2 1080P Video Camera – with the accompanying software – $95 in 2019 (Wyze has less expensive cameras, but I had some trouble with their software in 2019)
The Result:
- The laptop now sits in the kitchen and displays the image of my wife in her bed. I could have motion detection and two-way conversation, but I don't use them.
- I can see the image both on the laptop and on my smartphone.
The Problems:
I have to restart the laptop's Foscam software about every two days to a week because it loses the connection. I've been unable to diagnose why. Once in a while I've had to unplug and then replug the power to the camera to get it to reconnect.
Other than that it works very well.
Hello aengineerdu,
Hello aengineerdu,
Have you tried using an Echo Show at your wife's bedside and another in the kitchen for you to view her?
You can also view her Echo Show from your phone using the Alexa app
She doesn't need to accept the call, you can drop-in on her Echo Show
Frank
Thanks for the good
Thanks for the good suggestion.
I was just trying to share a method that I'd found that worked for me. I'll follow up on the Echo Show.
